Go Caitlin, It’s Your Birthday

As we get older, we seem to dread birthdays in general. The meaning is lost and birthday wishes are forgotten. One thing to be grateful for today is the fact that YOUR BIRTHDAY COMES EVERY YEAR and you should be damn excited about it. Age is just a number, but your birthday isn’t just a day.

Here are my top 5 reasons of why birthdays are still valuable and even more AWESOME when you are an adult.

1. NO GENERIC PARTIES HERE: Now that you are an adult, you have cooler ideas for theme birthday parties (right?)  I recently just turned the big 21 and had pretty much the best idea of my life for a celebration. CAIT-CHELLA. The invite read: “Get your flower crowns, fanny packs and hippy pants ready because this night will be one for the books!  Get ready to dance under the stars and be the free spirit that you are.” #GREATESTIDEAEVER

   Because if turning 21 means anything it is having 60 plus of your favorite people at your house singing happy birthday to you at exactly midnight while wearing flower crowns, kimonos and crop tops.  Fabulous night, fabulous people. SO MUCH FUN, SO MUCH DANCING.

2. TRUE FRIENDS: Now that we aren’t forced to invite everyone in the third grade to our birthday extravaganza, it’s easier to tell who really means “Happy Birthday,” and who doesn’t. Getting older doesn’t suck, it shows that you have some kick butt friends who are ready to celebrate your special day with you no matter what. These are the people that are going to be wishing you a happy birthday until you’re old and gray so make sure to return the favor. *Bonus* Sometimes they bring you sentimental, meaningful gifts; or just downright hilarious ones.
3. DIET OUT THE DOOR: I don’t care if you are the biggest gym goer in the nation, when your birthday month rolls up it’s time to break out the candles and dessert forks. My one birthday wish? Is to be surrounded by a ton of people that I love while eating a gigantic piece of vanilla cake that is frosted to perfection with colored balloons. *FROSTING BALLOONS ARE A NECESSITY*

4. YOU MADE IT ANOTHER YEAR: This is your time to shine and to show all the haters that you survived working at that god-awful restaurant or that you finally paid off your student loans. This is your day to celebrate your good deeds and dang it, you are a great person and fine looking adult. #AgedWell
5. TRADITION: Even if you do something different every year for your birthday, it is still special. For the past four years two of my closest friends, Angela and Bobby, have provided extreme birthday fun for me. From bowling and late night dinners to being the stars of Cait-Chella, they have always been there for me when I blow out my candles. Do what makes you happy on your birthday. Whether that means lounging around watching action movies in your undies or raging until morning. Create a new tradition and love it.
   

   New Tradition starting this year: BIRTHDAY CONCERT! I’m still emotional because I got to see ONE DIRECTION in concert for my birthday! *TEARS*

As we get older, don’t think about the age that you turn; instead think about the memories you have with the ones you love and all the new lessons that soon will be learned.
